What is the RV Care-A-Vanners Program?
If you’re an RVer traveling the country and looking for volunteer opportunities along the way, consider Habitat for Humanity’s RV Care-A-Vanners program. This nationwide initiative offers RVers the chance to help build homes and strengthen communities, all while continuing to enjoy life on the road.
A volunteer program created by Habitat for Humanity, RV Care-A-Vanners brings RV owners together to assist in building safe, affordable homes for families in need. Volunteers join organized, two-week build projects at locations across the U.S. and Canada. You bring your own RV and stay nearby (or on-site, when possible), working on the build site during the week with Habitat staff and other volunteers.
And don’t worry–you don’t need to be a seasoned contractor to participate! Habitat provides all the tools, materials, and training on-site. Tasks can vary depending on the project and your experience, but can include anything from framing and siding to painting, drywall, or landscaping. Every build is guided by experienced construction leads to ensure the work is safe and productive.
Why Does This Program Matter?
RV Care-A-Vanners helps Habitat speed up construction timelines and reach more families by tapping into a dedicated and flexible volunteer base. Plus, it’s a practical way for RVers to support affordable housing efforts while traveling. Another great result is that many volunteers end up spreading awareness about housing challenges in their own communities after participating.
Who Can Sign Up for RV Care-A-Vanners?
Anyone traveling in a self-contained RV (including motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheels, and camper vans) is welcome to join. Volunteers must be at least 18, able to handle basic physical tasks, and willing to complete a background check. Habitat posts build opportunities throughout the year, and volunteers can sign up for any that fit their travel plans.
Other Opportunities to Explore
The program also includes special opportunities like disaster recovery builds and student mentorship projects. Those with more experience can take on leadership roles, helping to coordinate teams or train new volunteers.
Whether you’re a full-timer or a seasonal RVer, RV Care-A-Vanners offers a chance to turn your travels into something more meaningful.
