Experiencing the Holidays in Your RV

The holiday season has arrived, and for many, that means gathering with loved ones, preparing grand feasts, and indulging in some serious shopping. But if you’re feeling the call of the open road, there’s no reason you can’t hit the highways and celebrate the holidays in your RV. Here are a few ways you can turn your holiday travel dreams into reality.

Pick a Merry Destination

Choose a destination where your holiday spirit will thrive! Whether you aim to visit family, stay at an RV campground, or seek out a snowy paradise, find a place that resonates with you and puts you in a cheerful mood. Just make sure there’s ample room for your RV, and if you’re parking at a relative’s place, research and understand the local parking rules for RVs–there might be restrictions!

Create a Holiday Haven

One of the best parts about the holidays is the decorations. Don’t let being in an RV stop you from creating a festive atmosphere. While a big Christmas tree might not fit inside your rig, you can certainly incorporate smaller and less bulky decorations such as garlands, streamers, cozy throws, and holiday-themed pillows. Plus, you can string some lights around the outside of your RV for that extra holiday sparkle.

Plan Practical Holiday Meals

Cooking a holiday meal (or any elaborate meal!) in an RV kitchen calls for some creativity. But you need to be honest with yourself about what you can whip up given your kitchen’s limitations. Is your oven large enough to handle a full-size turkey or ham? If your RV kitchen will pose some challenges, consider making simpler yet tasty meals—perhaps a turkey breast, broiled salmon, or even a stovetop pot roast. And don’t forget to use handy appliances like a crock pot or an outdoor grill.

Dive into Local Festivities and Volunteering

Each part of the country has its unique holiday traditions. Get involved with local activities like Christmas light displays, parades, and live events. Also, look into volunteer opportunities in the areas you visit. Helping out at a charity or local event is a wonderful way to spread holiday cheer and make a difference.

Celebrate with Fellow RVers

If you end up at an RV park, you won’t be the only one celebrating away from home. Connect with fellow RVers by organizing a movie night, potluck dinner, or a caroling session. It’s a fantastic way to get to know your neighbors and cultivate a festive campground atmosphere.
